WRITE-A-THON

What is a Write-A-Thon?

To participate in a Write-A-Thon, a school or classroom signs up (see below). We send the start-up kit. Each student gets a sponsor sheet. They collect sponsors (friends and family) who make a pledge to donate a certain amount of money per page of the stories that they write. The word count per page is set by the teacher of the class who is most suited to know the appropriate expectation for their specific group. Checks are to made out to Kids in Need – Books in Deed.

For a complete explanation of how a Write-A-Thon works, click here: How to Run a Write-A-Thon.

To download a sample pledge sheet, click here.

These two sheets will be included in the Starter Kit that we're happy to send to you. Also included in the Starter Kit is a Letter to Families, which will go home with all of your students, a profile of the school or program your students will be helping, as well as recent press on Kids in Need -- Books in Deed.

Are there prizes?

Well, of course! Outside donors, like XMRadio, are providing prizes for top pledge collectors and writers who produce the most imaginative power with a large number of pages also gets a prize.

Also we list all of the participating groups on our Good Deeds page, and we also will post some fabulous first sentences sent in by teachers across the country written by students involved in the program.

There is also the possibility of author visits for Write-A-Thon Schools in Deed. Depending on where you’re located, we may have an author who will be on a Thank You Tour and who may be able to come to your school to read and chat and sign books.
